The 2006 World Cup Means Big Business For Digital Giants & Bloggers!

When the carnival of World Cup 2006 enters German soil this year, you can bet billions of dollars (ask your club for a pay rise) that the big wigs of the corporate world will push their agenda's and pay packets into the race to generate more publicity for emerging technologies. An article released yesterday shows just how big a business the digital world really is, with some big bucks being thrown around to gain major publicity on the global stage that is football. Following is an excerpt from an article published by VisionGain:
"The study found that the one-month long tournament will generate $6.35 billion in revenue for mobile companies, with text-based services and downloads, such as ring tones and logos, the most significant. After these services, the study found that gambling and gaming would be the next most profitable World Cup-related content. The industry will also look to generate revenue through interactive video messaging, video clips and even blogging services."
Soccer related blogs will possibly see a whole lot of large technology business knocking on the door for premium ad locations, and good for those bloggers. What do I think? Why not! I think that emerging technologies are an exciting trend, and are bringing a whole new emphasis of connecting our great sport of soccer to a much wider audience. Blogging, and Vlogging along with the trend of SMS advertising and mobile phone services are giving fans and soccer lovers all across the globe a whole new way to support the sport they love the most.

I agree, the world cup is going to be huge for advertisers. The FIFA tries to be very restricive though this year and protects their official sponsors at all cost. Some creativity will be required to stay out of trouble. It is going to be a fun event for fans and advertisers though. I am in the guerilla marketing business and I am definitely looking forward to the summer :-)
